Good morning, America! We did it. Not by the 90-10 margin I may have hoped for, but we did it. Barack Obama will be our next president. It sure feels good to know that the mind driving our country is a clear, young one instead of a confused, elderly one. The rest of the world is happy for us, too… and that matters a lot more than the rednecks who can’t even think beyond their own living rooms.
Let’s take a look at some maps, though. Over at kottke, a generous collection has been prepared. Now, I know that not all John McCain supporters are racist, bigoted or fundamentalist Christians. But, last night I was reading the comments beneath a brief article describing Obama’s win as a “non-violent revolution”, and I couldn’t help but be a little shocked at what I read. Not only are there a great deal of openly racist fuckfaces out there, but a whole lot who consider Obama to be a Marxist or Socialist. Granted, somewhere around zero percent of them are aware that our entire political spectrum is shifted far to the right when compared to Europe as a whole… but still, these folks paniced in almost the same way we would have if McCain had won. The only difference is, if McCain had won, we really would have been screwed in every sense.
And now, my favorite post on Reddit.com in the past few days: “Goodbye Sarah Palin, may I never see your stupid face again.” I think we can all agree here. I know the Republicans will probably want to adopt her as their candidate in another 4 years, but GO AHEAD! She will continue to make a complete ass out of herself and, once again, only rednecks and god-fearing born-again fundamentalists are going to jump on that bandwagon.
May I also say that, California, you genuinely blow for not striking down Prop. 8 where it stood. I thought we were a better, more civilised and cosmopolitan people than this. More tolerant, surely… but I guess I gave us too much credit.
Finally, please enjoy this 80’s Cartoon Quiz. I did pretty bad, but it’s not full of easy questions, either.
