This is the biggest step the project has taken so far: it sets out to fix <em>every<\/em> issue from the initial release while adding a whole stack of new capabilities that push the card much closer to its final form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"501\" src=\"https:\/\/www.r3tr0.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Screen-Shot-2026-06-14-at-01.22.00-1024x501.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-502\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.r3tr0.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Screen-Shot-2026-06-14-at-01.22.00-1024x501.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.r3tr0.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Screen-Shot-2026-06-14-at-01.22.00-300x147.png 300w, https:\/\/www.r3tr0.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Screen-Shot-2026-06-14-at-01.22.00-768x376.png 768w, https:\/\/www.r3tr0.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Screen-Shot-2026-06-14-at-01.22.00-1536x751.png 1536w, https:\/\/www.r3tr0.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Screen-Shot-2026-06-14-at-01.22.00-2048x1001.png 2048w, https:\/\/www.r3tr0.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Screen-Shot-2026-06-14-at-01.22.00-600x293.png 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What\u2019s new<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>RP2350 design<\/strong> is now using <strong>0603 footprint<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>A bigger brain for the bus \u2014 new CPLD.<\/strong> The card moves to the <strong>ATF1508-10<\/strong> in a PLCC84 package, giving plenty more room for the Micro Channel glue logic.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>In-circuit CPLD programming.<\/strong> A <strong>TAG-Connect<\/strong> footprint lets the CPLD be reprogrammed in place \u2014 no more fiddling with the chip to push a new logic build.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>A full 16-bit data path.<\/strong> A new mux plus an <strong>additional bidirectional buffer<\/strong> let the card properly handle the 16-bit MCA data bus.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>More signals on the high GPIO bank.<\/strong> <strong>ADL<\/strong> and <strong>CMD<\/strong> are now routed to the high bank of the RP2350 GPIO.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>WiFi RM2 instead of ESP32.<\/strong> The wireless side switches to the <strong>RM2<\/strong> module \u2014 cleaner integration and better support.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>CHRESET handling.<\/strong> Proper handling of the channel reset signal.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Sound onto the MCA bus.<\/strong> Audio can now be driven onto the Micro Channel bus itself.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Front-panel-ready status LED.<\/strong> An onboard LED, plus a jumper to deport it to the front panel.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What\u2019s fixed<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>CMD signal taken straight from the bus.<\/strong> The CMD line now comes directly from the MCA bus instead of being derived.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Better analog-ground isolation<\/strong> for cleaner audio.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>New sound jack connector.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>New battery holder.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Corrected pull-up resistor.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Boards are in production right now \u2014 I\u2019ll post build and bring-up notes as soon as they land on the bench.
